Easy Ways To Save Gas While Traveling

With gas prices getting higher and higher, everyone can use some help in ways to reduce fuel usage. When driving to vacations or the place you are going to recreate, there is always a portion of your recreation funds that have to go to transportation. If you can reduce this in any way, this leaves more money for the things you really want and items that would make your vacation more enjoyable such as better equipment.

Check air pressure. Low air in your times uses up a bit more fuel. While not a great deal, if you follow every step, significant savings can be had if you are traveling on a long ride.

Gas prices are higher closer to freeways. Eventually, you will have to stop and refuel, so the question there is, when you do need to fill up, how can you save the most? Stations right off the freeway get more people and can charge larger prices. Stations far within the city that get fewer customers will have lower prices. The independent shops, as opposed to Shell and Mobile, are always lower. You should know the lowest price around you. Fill up there and you might consider taking fuel canisters to fill up as well, depending on the length of trip. If you are within 1.5 to 2 full tanks of your destination, having all the fuel pumped at the cheapest station and eliminating any need to stop will save you money.

Watch your braking. Always try to slow down and coast rather than speeding up and coming to full stops. Accelerating is what eats up a great deal of gas. The more you can maintain the same speed (cruise control is a great idea) the less gas you use.

Try to avoid heat and AC. Little things like parking in the shade will keep your car within a better temperature so even if you do need to turn on the AC, you can do so at a higher temperature. Wear warmer clothes so you don’t need the heater as much. Consider buying a batter powered fan and spray bottle. Make sure to have an ice chest with cold water. Keeping hydrated will keep you cool so you might not need the AC as much.

The more weight on your car, the more fuel you will use. A cheap bike carrier or ski rack may not seem like they weigh a great deal, but they are excess weight you can easily eliminate. Arear bike carrier and outside the care accessories also create wind drag which uses up gas.
